Titanium is a lightweight, highly valuable structural metal with diverse applications across various industries due to its exceptional properties:
High resistance to corrosion
Non-magnetic traits
Unique density
Good heat transfer
High melting point
High tensile strength
These properties make titanium indispensable in the aircraft industry, chemical processing plants, and gas and oil production, among others. Titanium's ability to be easily fabricated, welded, and formed enhances its versatility in industrial operations.
Titanium Tubes
Titanium tubes, available in various grades of titanium alloys and pure titanium, are a prime example of the metal's functional versatility. There are 38 titanium grades that meet the standards set by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B-338 and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) B-338. Some of the approved grades for pressurized service include grades 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, 16, 17, 26 (TIRU-26™), and 27 (TIRU-27™). Among these, grade 2 titanium is the most commonly used, particularly in power plant surface condensers.
Titanium Alloy Grades
- Alloy Ti 3Al/2.5V
Properties: Good ductility, excellent resistance to corrosion, and high strength. It can be cold worked and welded.
Forms: Available as straight and seamless tubes.
Applications: Used in aircraft honeycomb panels, aircraft hydraulic systems, and other aerospace parts. Additionally, it is utilized in the medical, dental, marine, sports, and chemical industries.
- Alloy Ti 6Al/4V
Properties: This is the most widely-used alpha-beta titanium alloy, constituting at least 50% of titanium alloy usage. It offers superior strength, fabricability, corrosion resistance, and weld properties, with thermal properties and stiffness comparable to commercial titanium.
Forms: Available in seamless and straight forms.
Applications: Primarily used in pressure tubing, aerospace tubing, and surgical tubing. It is also employed in the oil and gas, chemical, medical, and aerospace industries.
Titanium tubes, with their diverse alloy grades, play a crucial role in modern industrial applications, ensuring high performance and reliability in demanding environments.
