OCTG is an acronym for Oil Country Tubular Goods. OCTG is tubing used in oil and gas production. The pipeline is used to produce oil and gas onshore and offshore. Oil Country Tubular Goods is a range of rolled metal products such as drill pipe, casing and tubing, Pup joints, connections and fittings for oil and gas production activities. These OTCG products are manufactured according to the specifications set by API (American Petroleum Institute).

What are the different types of OCTG pipes?

Casings are used to line boreholes that have been dug into the ground to obtain and stabilize oil or gas. The casing is subjected to axial tension and the high internal pressures that arise when pumping oil or gas. They also have to withstand external pressure from surrounding rocks underground.

Tubing is the pipe placed inside the wellbore through casing. It is responsible for transporting hydrocarbons to the surface. Oil pipes are used to transport natural gas or crude oil after drilling is completed. It transports natural gas and oil to the facility for further processing. Similar to drill pipe and casing, tubing must withstand high pressures during extraction and therefore needs to meet industry standards.

The drill pipe is a heavy duty seamless tube that provides rotation for circulating the drilling fluid. This pipe helps pump the drilling fluid back into the annulus. The annulus of an oil well is the space between the casing and the tubing or any direct space between any casing and the tubing surrounding it. The annular space facilitates easy circulation of fluids in the well. Tubing is subjected to axial tension due to the high torque required to rotate downhole components and to drill and circulate fluids. All of this creates a lot of stress on the drill pipe; therefore the OCTG pipe should be very strong.

The sucker rod is an important part of the sucker rod pumping equipment. The sucker rod is connected with the coupling into a rod string, which is connected to the pumping unit or PCP motor upward through the polished rod, and downward to the pump piston or PCP. Its function is to ground the reciprocating motion of the suspension point of the horse head of the pumping unit . Transfer the rotational torque of the PCP motor to the downhole pump or to the downhole PCP.

A pup joint is Casing, Pipe or Tubing shorter in length than a standard tubular string. This allows for the adjustment and installation of tools and various tubular components when placement downhole is critical for a specific project. A Spacer Pipe is another reference used to identify pup joints. Pup joint features consist of connections, lengths, weights and material grade.
