Carbon Steel AS/NZS 1074 Pipe

Aug 11, 2025

AS/NZS 1074 Pipe
Main Material:Carbon Steel

AS/NZS 1074 is a standard published by Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand. It covers the specification for steel tubes and tubulars for use in structural applications. The standard provides requirements for manufacturing, dimensions, tolerances, and mechanical properties of these steel tubes. It’s commonly referenced in engineering and construction industries in Australia and New Zealand.

With nominal sizes ranging from DN 8 to DN 150, you have the flexibility to choose the perfect fit for your specific needs. Our tubes come in three distinct wall thicknesses: Light, Medium, and Heavy, each catering to different applications and load-bearing capacities.

It applies to threaded steel pipes and fittings specified in AS 1722.1, and flat-ended steel pipes from DN 8 to DN 150.

We summarized the corresponding dimensional specifications, chemical requirements, and mechanical requirements of this standard.

P(Phosphorus) 0.045%
CE(Carbon equivalent) 0.40%

Mechanical Requirement OF AS 1074 Carbon Steel Pipe

2.1 PROCESS OF MANUFACTURE. Tubes may be either welded or seamless.

2.2 MATERIAL. Steel pipe production should be made of steel with a sulfur content of no more than 0.045% and a phosphorus content of no more than 0.045%. The carbon equivalent, as determined by the subsequent formula, should remain below 0.4:

Mechanical Requirement OF AS 1074 pipe

The selected pipe shall be cut out and its length or shape shown according to the AS 1391 standard
(a) minimum yield strength:195 MPa;
(b) tensile strength:320 MPa to 460 MPa;
(c) at the specified length of 5.65√So, the elongation reaches at least 20%, where So represents the original cross-sectional area of the specimen.
NOTE: When other measurement methods are used to calculate the length, the corresponding elongation is set to 5.65√So, which can be determined by BS 3894:Part 1.

AS 1074 Carbon Steel Pipe Testing
Nondestructive Testing:
Ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, X-ray testing.

Hydraulic Pressure Test:
The pressure value depends on the size and design requirements of the steel pipe.

Bending Test:
The steel pipe is usually tested at 90 degrees.

Final Inspection Before Delivery:
Check the diameter, wall thickness, batch number, packaging, etc.
